yes, install petitboot http://ozlabs.org/~jk/projects/petitboot/, format your usb stick with ext2 or ext3, and copy files from CD to it.
Why ext2/3? Because kboot mount vfat formatted stick with msdos fs and lost long names for files. Kboot cannot find /etc/kboot.conf, and can't boot from it.

pdaXrom-ng-otheros-0.1.bld + pdaXrom-ng-ps3-26022009.iso on a usb key (vfat)

and boot with:
live='/boot/zImage initrd=/boot/rootfs.img root=/dev/ram0 video=ps3fb:mode:3'
noswap='/boot/zImage initrd=/boot/rootfs.img root=/dev/ram0 video=ps3fb:mode:3 noswap'

both stop at "starting udev"

I can boot from pdaXrom-ng-ps3-20090417.iso without problems with the default settings, but I don't see where I can enter (for example) "video=ps3fb:mode:13"?

Hmm - the cd boots without problem, but after copying the cd contents to a usb stick, things start to boot but then I get:
Code:
no bootable rootfs found

..and then things stop. Am I missing something?

Hi Juanito!!
If You see this message 'no bootable rootfs found'
That means You have wrong file system on Yours pendrive
PdaXrom supports
vfat e.g. i've on my pendrive with pdaxrom fat16
ext2
ext3
iso9660
udf

But there is another problem
#For 60gb ps3 models pdaxrom works fine
#For 40gb ps3 models works only with partition for other os or without this partition
#For 80 and 160 models probably works only on older models ps3 (80gb 160gb) for newer have freeze after choose resolution in bootloader
#For some 80 works with noswap option

PdaXrom is hot stuff ;) Many thanks for author.
But dosen't work on all models ps3 ;(
I think there is problem with kernel

Sorry for my bad english

Cheers!!

My ps3 is also CECHC04 60gb, and i've other os partitions
Pendrive formatted to fat16, works with cd & pendrive

My mate had this same problem with 'no bootable rootfs found' on ver. 40gb.
He tries other pendrive and works. Probably the first have wrong filesystem.

Good Luck

aah - 'wonder if I have to use the kernel boot code "rootdelay=10" or similar to allow the usb stick to be detected and "settle"...

i.e.
Code:
noswap='/boot/zImage rootdelay=10 initrd=/boot/rootfs.img root=/dev/ram0 video=ps3fb:mode:3 noswap'

Thank you very much for all your contributions. Can I install this live-cd on the PS3 (Is incredible fast compared with other distros).

And if so, can I update or install new packages?

Thanks in advance
