I was wondering if it'd ever be possible to have something like the Xmb like how you can listen to music while playing a game but, for PS2??

i don't think so. ps2 bios is not designed that way, and there is not much free ram reserved for system use when games are playing.

not to mention the performance issues, and the need to keep the necessary iop modules (i/o drivers) in ram to be able to access the music files.

i think that's not really possible.

Well, there could be an IOP module playing musics during a game, but I believe that would use too much RAM, that's almost fully used by the game (most of them). So... It isn't possible.
