I do not know too much, just what I have read and what I put into the tutorial but I wonder, what makes you think that it is actually a power supply problem and not a software problem?

The only reason I ask is that before I figured out how to configure and install the pikey plugin properly I was having trouble where the keyboard would turn on briefly and then turn off again and be unresponsive. Does this sound like what is happening to you?

Firstly, I am sorry for my poor English

In pspAdvancedSio, I choose baud rate 4800, press any key but always receive 1280, 1280....If i press X to change to letters mode, the screen does not display anything. Press X again, I receive 1280, 1280... again. If I change baud rate to 2400, 1200..., receive symbol special characters äşėćʼn... ( not normal character abc)

In XMB mode, keyboard did not work because I did not see the backlight turning on when press down and there is no voltage between Vs and GND

Does anyone help me? Thank you very much!

made a PS/2 firmware for the chatpad
u have to cut a trace and add 2 resistors though
however, there are low cost PS2 - USB converters so u can add a USB port to your chatpad

EDIT: firmware's not rly clean code though...it does work but that's everything...

I would be happy not to see chatpads with my open and free firmware sold for more than original price plus shipping taxes... I'm not accusing anyone, but seeing such a thing would definitely cause the stop of ANY development on this hack from my side. Hope you'll understand...

I do not want to offend Jean in any way, so I will stick with what he has said. Is there anyone out there who is good at soldering and wants to make another chatpad? I would send the chatpad + whatever parts needed and a self addressed envelope plus money for postage. I would REALLY appreciate it.

Ok, no replies. Darn. Is there anyone who would be willing to help me out a bit? I am CS, not EE. : ) I could use some help from someone who has built a functional one, just to discuss steps with me and possibly sorta walk me through it, anyone who has built one even just some encouragement that it will work would be great. I guess I will have to try and breadboard this...

Would LOVE some feedback, even if it's just to say "Hey npt, I made one, it's not as hard as you are thinking."

I built one and it works a trick but I am not sure I would be up for making another one. Not a lot of time on my hands right now. However, I can assure you npt that this is a simple project once you have all the information and, if you go back a page or two there ought to be a link to a tutorial that should help get you started.

I can also try to help you out though I am not an expert.

rexnecis,

Well, your assurances that it is not that hard as long as I follow the tutorial, and just another person saying they were able to build one with the instructions that are there, gives me hope. I am going to order the chatpad then, and the other stuff I need as well. (BTW - is there a particular version of the chatpad I need to order? Or will any chatpad work?) I will take you up on your offer if I get stuck. So as to keep the most benefit to people who are having trouble in the future, should I ask you questions in the thread, or should I PM you?

I guess just message me in the public forum. That way if I tell you something that is wrong someone can correct me more quickly.

I noticed that the link to the tutorial no longer functions so I will upload another copy of it...as soon as I find the pdf...ha ha. If anyone else has a copy of the thing it would be great if you could upload it somewhere.

As far as the version of the chatpad goes, I do not know. There was some talk earlier about only ones with certain serial numbers working but all I did was walk down to the local wallyworld and buy one and I may have just gotten lucky.

NPT,

I think Jean wrote that message about me because people were asking me to build chatpads for them... which I have not done aside from helping people, but have you seen Jean do any other development on this chat pad since then.... The answer is NO.

Now I'm not saying anything here and I know Jean is real busy with other things as am I, but I'm thinking about offering programing help for thous of you that cant build or pay for a programmer that you will never use again...

and no Jean I would not be making a profit off of your software I would only be charging for my time and effort.

You guys would need to take your chatpads apart and figure out if you can have it programed in the first place.. Then pay for shipping to and fro with insurance as well... Nothing is set in stone right now but I will announce here if I decide to do it.... The only part is I'm not to keen on international shipping... but if your paying and you include insurance well then I cant see why that would be a problem so I don't know...

I have made about 25 or more of these keyboards now and I get asked at least three times a week on my youtube account for help so I think I know what I'm doing and based on the other mods I have done I think I know how to solder so tell me what you guys think..
