@baggacfreak

If you can use mencoder and mplayer then try this. I think it is better to do the conversion on a PC unless it is slower than the PS2. You'll see. Here it is - mplayer-1.0rc2-ps2-sdl-only.tar.bz2 can be found at http://www.4shared.com/dir/8728191/2a84ce3b/sharing.html

Have fun. I use the mplayer all of the time, but never really used mencoder (google "man mencoder").

@deba5er: Thanks for the help. I will give it a try. Perhaps I can set up mencoder to convert my files on the ps2 with linux running in consol mode without X. Should speed up things. Can I access via samba/NFS my video files from my xp notebook?

------------------------

What are you trying to do exactly baggacfreak?

Now I know it is very difficult in terms h264 video on ps2, even though the video is not in high definition. If I'm not wrong, we would need 256 mega of memory on ps2 to make that possible.

The idea seems interesting cluster for compilation and even perhaps prosecute videos, but I can not imagine how.

Mega Man, "kloader2.2.elf" to me did not work, clicking the picture is dancing across the screen and I can not see the options, even if you use the composite video cable. As the autoboot is enabled, Linux is loaded and the image on the LCD TV with component video cable is no longer pink color.

-------------------------

Edit the file /usr/local/bin/mountit. It looks like this:

# Remember to run "net server start" or "net share" on PC as admin first
echo "Run 'net share' on PC as admin first."
sudo mount -t smbfs //machine/sharedirectory /mnt/smb -o username=user

I use this to play my media from my PC running Windows XP as well as my NAS device.

--------------------------------------------------------

The forum has been off the air?

I've used rdesktop version 1.1.0 on linux ps2 and connect to pc to watch the videos. So the sound was missing, something that only works on rdesktop version 1.6.0.3 or rdesktop.1.1.0.1, but for this we need the newest libc.

About cluster, I am using two pcs and the ClusterKnoppix or CHAOS, both with openMosix.

Any idea how to do this on ps2?

@noiseand
Yes, sadly this forum is offline every few days.
About OpenMosix: OpenMosix has a patch against 2.4.18, the latest working PS2 kernel is 2.4.17. And PS2's kernel is heavily patched. You can try applying OpenMosix's patches, but I'm pretty sure they won't do without some modifications in the patches. The userland tools should compile cleanly. It's really bad that there's no 2.6 kernel and no modern GCC for PS2. You could use much more modern approaches then - and also a newer rdesktop.
