This is a development forum, please ask this question in a more general PSP forum.

And for the record, I dont know... IIRC, the Europe PSP's also have a 1.51 or 1.52 firmware, which is already not-able-to-play-homebrew.

Yes, the European one comes with 1.52 and can't play homebrew. If you are worried about upgrades, just don't plug in the power. Upgrades won't run unless you've plugged in the power.

www.pspupdates.com is a more suitable forum for questions like these.

thanks for your answers, i did not knew of other psp forums. It is a pitty that homebrew is not able to run on euro psp's. Let's hope sony will release something like their linux package for the ps2 also for the psp.

I do think Sony messed up on homebrew with the PSP.

You would think that if they allowed homebrew but just restricted it a little (ie no UMD access allowed, no internal flash access allowed) to a special homebrew API then they would have a better chances of stopping piracy.

Lets face it, if homebrew ran but copied games did not - there wouldnt be anywhere near as many people trying to crack the firmware because most people are happy to just play homebrew. Sure the piracy groups would still try but Sony could still keep updating the firmware like they do now but everyones life would be easier (except the pirates).

Im sure they could allow enough of the internals of the PSP to be used for homebrew to be worth doing, while still restricting it enough so that it couldnt be used commercially or for piracy - they just don't see the benefit.
