I have these .pak files that are on a ps2 disc. are these compressed files? did a little searchin and found some info that refers to .pak files found in games like quake and even some viewers but they dont open these .pak`s i found for the ps2 disc.

I got a hold of the official HDD utility 1.1 and wanted to look at it and see what it uses to install , here`s what i found on the disc

FILES.PAK
INSTALL.PAK
PADMAN.IRX
PS288.VOB
PS289.VOB
PS290.VOB
REPLACE.IMG
RS2D.BIN
SIO2MAN.IRX

so it looks to me as the drivers are in the files or install .pak`s what do you think? if it`s like that , is there anyway of opening them?

"PAK" is more a generic extension for "bundle of files which are concatenated each other" than anything else. Quake has that extension, with a specific file format. I remember the old game Dune2 and Legend of Kyrandia had that filename extension with another file format... and a lot of other games and softwares do the same with their own file formats.

So, these files more likely are a container for other files. Yet you have to understand yourself the fileformat and build yourself a tool to extract them.

hmm so how does the ps2 read the contents? is there something on the disc that the ps2 uses to read the contents or the ps2 can natively read these type of pak files?

Take it off these forums please. How to crack .pak files isn't a good question to ask here.
