I relatively know nothing about this...But from what I've read there is a 2D acceleration driver for linux? (Takes you outta frame-buffer mode).

I'm on the latest PS3 Firmware (Whoops that's my PSP version - Its 2.53)
And I have Ubuntu 8.10 installed (Kernel version: 2.6.25-2-powerpc64-smp)

So if I can install a driver, how and where would I get it from?
(I can do basic things in Linux, lol)

If anyone could bring a little light on the subject, that would be nice.
I can't seem to find anything and I've been looking for hours.

I've not heard of any driver for RSX, either 2D or 3D, other than the simple framebuffer that has been there since forever. Where did you read otherwise?

I believe there might have been some patches around that use SPUs to accelerate some X operations, but I am not sure how stable/complete this work currently is.

For firmware <2.1, there is a driver which provides some 2D acceleration using the RSX. I am currently using it in Ubuntu 7.10 and am reasonably pleased: window moving is very smooth and quick, without the annoying artifacts which exist without acceleration. It supposedly also accelerates mplayer, but I haven't had much luck with this. Installation is very tricky and I am afraid I couldn't recall all the steps I used (more than a year ago).

Good luck.
