This is a pretty cool ground-floor opportunity...kind of like a start-up with great IP and backing. The person filling this position will be hiring several other engineers (Rendering, Tools, UI/VFX, Gameplay, etc) for a dedicated team we're developing.

Here's the job description:

Lead Software Engineer - PSP

Location: San Francisco, CA
Department: Engineering
Reports to: Project Lead
Job Status: Full-Time, Exempt


Job Purpose:

• Lead and manage all technical aspects of a project and help define our hand-held business.
• Join this ground-floor opportunity to work closely with all members of a team to evaluate feature, schedule, and risk trade-offs.
• Collaborate with other Lead Engineers to leverage technology efforts.
• Provide strong engineering and architectural leadership and skills.
• Ensure technical excellence and the creation of high-quality code by an engineering staff that you will build, manage, mentor and inspire.

Major Responsibilities:

• Serve as the focal point for all technical issues for a team, with particular emphasis on delivering the technical tools and engine for creating a compelling gameplay experience. Evaluate and effectively communicate feature/schedule trade-offs and risks. Proactively liaison between engineering team and management. Exhibit exceptional problem-solving skills.
• Provide leadership and insight to help the team avoid and overcome obstacles as they arise during development.
• Provide a complete and accurate task list and schedule for all engineering tasks, working with other team members in this effort.
• Assist in the sharing of ideas and exploration of new practices to continually improve the quality of software development for the Company.
• Provide coaching skills to help develop less experienced programmers.
• Maintain a professional attitude during all stages of development.
• Excel as a team member and strive to maximize team and departmental performance.
• Contribute to the hiring process of the highest quality engineers.

Qualifications:

• Seven or more years experience in the creation and delivery of state-of-the-art, performance-minded games required.
• Proven experience and ability to hire and build a cohesive development team.
• Flexible team player with excellent communication skills required.
• Proven project management skills required.
• Full life-cycle experience in the development and shipping of console titles.
• Name appearing in credit list for four games preferred (at least one for PSP would be desirable).
• C/C++ excellence required. Knowledge and use of assembly, vector intrinsics, etc. highly desirable.
• Ability to work independently and to be self-directing.
• Passion for making and playing games.
• B.S. Degree in Computer Science, or equivalent required.
