It seems that the PSP dev forum has reached critical mass as far as everything we currently know about the PSP. Therefore I propose we lock those forums until homebrew code is actually running on the PSP. There's a ton of useful information in there from a few months ago, but it's not likely anything interesting will happen in the near future.

Until then those forums will just be a pain to read and manage.

And don't forget about redondancy.

The only "pro" argument I can find is that some people are still dev'ing some aside tools for the PSP, so, these forums are still useful for that kind of "third party" tools (which is not directly PSP dev)

Proposed solution: lock the actual PSP dev forums as it is, since, indeed, there's no real PSP dev going on, and open a new "third party dev", which would host discussions about softwares such as these ffmpeg encoders things, savegame manipulation tools or that firmware upgrade notifier.

I don't think locking another forum is the answer. We've already done that and it has mostly worked. The traffic has been slowing down to a mangeable amount for a while.

Instead, I suggest we get stricter with the rules. If a thread does not involve information on working towards, or a question about, homebrew development on the psp it gets moved to off-topic. No threads about getting movies working, or the latest site someone advertises... if it isn't involved with homebrew, its gone. Move it to off-topic. Lock it in only in extreme cases. Edit out urls to illegal files.

It also may be time to unlock the general forum. Move the psp-related but not dev-related posts there, instead of off-topic. Stuff about 3rd-party software or whatever can go there.

I'd also like to see us back off from micromanaging this place a bit. We've been getting a little lock-happy lately. If someone asks a silly or stupid question, move it out of the dev forums and leave it open. Chances are the thread will die on its own.

We also need to nail down what the line is for grey-area topics sometime.
